About Lake Monticello

Lake Monticello is a private 3,500-acre community divided into 12 sections containing 4,635 lots. At this time, there are approximately 12,000 residents residing in nearly 4,200 single-family homes and 15 condominium units. Nine sections of the community are within the gated area, with access through five gates. The community, approximately 15 miles east of Charlottesville, Virginia, situated around a 350-acre manmade lake (fed by some 200 springs) with 22.5 miles of shoreline. Home sites are connected by 62 miles of privately maintained roads and served by a central water and sewage system.  Lake Monticello is patrolled twenty-four hours a day by their own private police department, and active volunteer fire department and rescue squads are located just outside the gated area.

Although it is a subdivision, Lake Monticello is almost a small city within it’s gates. Located in Fluvanna County, Lake Monticello offers waterfront and golf course living.  Lake Monticello is a mix of full time residents who commute to Charlottesville, are retired and those who are use the Lake for vacation purposes.  The Lake features recreational boating, PGA championship golf course and pro shop, driving range and practice greens, tennis, basketball and bocce courts.  There is also a swimming pool complex, playgrounds and picnic areas.  There is also a stocked fishing and canoeing pond.
