About Charlottesville

Just as Albemarle County is the heart  of Virginia, Charlottesville is the heart of Albemarle.  One hour west of Richmond, the small town feel is enhanced by being the site of the University of Virginia.  Charlottesville was founded before the Revolutionary War and was home to our third, fourth and fifth Presidents.  Historic Court Square was witness to Jefferson, Madison and Monroe as they practiced law at the local courthouse which is in use still today. From Charlottesville  The Blue Ridge Mountains are clearly visible to the west  and yet a two hour drive brings you to the beaches of the Atlantic.  The mountains shield the area from volatile weather systems and its southern proximity assures mild winters.  Traveling from Charlottesville is easy due to Interstate 64 running just south of the city as well as having the Charlottesville Regional Airport and Amtrak service from Charlottesville.  Charlottesville is has made everyone's list of top ten places to live in the country. Home to the University of Virginia, we are blessed to have a top notch medical center affiliated with the University.  The UVA Children's Hospital is part of the medical center and opening shortly is the Emily Coric Cancer Center. Charlottesville is experiencing rapid, managed growth. Our downtown area is a bustling mecca for restaurants and live entertainment.  The Charlottesville Pavilion anchors one end of the pedestrian mall and the other end features an indoor ice skating rink.
